Forest Service Road 698 to Boiling Springs Closed

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

FYI The Middle Fork Road north of Crouch Idaho (FSR 698) is closed just past the fork to Silver Springs Plunge. That is, if snow hasn’t already closed the road.

You can still make it to Fire Crew, but put your plans for Boiling Springs, Pine Burl, Moondipper, Groundhot and Butterfly on hold. If Fire Crew is your destination, good luck, the pools are sizzlin hot!

Thanks Nick for the update, as well as everyone else for sending in other updates. I’ll get the rest up soon.

Peace outside, HSG

09.17.07 Boiling Springs Hot Springs in Idaho Trip Report

It was a beautiful day to be hiking around in the Boise National Forest. Our soaking party met a nice couple on their way out – they were as red as lobsters! They had somehow managed to withstand 110-113 degree temperatures for over an hour… yikes! I couldn’t take sticking my foot in for longer than a minute. The pools were silty, but the water was clear. This one is just too hot to enjoy prolonged soaking.

A cheap hotel deal with really cheap airline tickets is still considered the best of the travel gifts. The flights to canada often comply to such travel deals, giving in to the customization, offering flight tracking as well.

Boiling Springs Hot Springs Video Clip

Monday, October 8th, 2007

At the end of a forest road in the Boise National Forest, north of the town of Crouch lies the historic Boiling Springs Guard Station – which is available for rent by reservation only. The real treat is the nearby hot springs; featuring rock walled pools with rock/sand bottoms that have minor amounts of silt/algae.

Boiling Springs Cabin Closed for Repairs Until September 2007?

According to the Boise National Forest website and Recreation.gov the Boiling Springs Guard Station is supposed to be shut down for repairs this season. What I saw was a small group of people recreating at the Guard Station, no official Forest Service anything or tools for that matter in sight. Why are people partying at Boiling Springs when it is supposed to be closed for repairs? Hmmm. Something seems amiss.

Boiling Spings Hot Springs Taking Summer 07 Off

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

The Boise National Forest website and recreation.gov are both reporting that the Boiling Springs Guard Station, located north of Crouch and about 2.5 hours from Boise, will be closed for repairs until September 2007.

I would imagine that the late-season, riverside pools that are near the campground of the same name are still a viable soak. However, the more private pools, located near the Guard Station, will more than likely be closed until September 2007.

Boiling Springs Hot Springs in Idaho Revisited

Saturday, November 5th, 2005

Boiling Springs Cabins

The 2 pools near the source were very hot and featured an abundance of silt and algae. The pools near the point where the hot creek (source outflow) meets the river were way too cool. The hearty amount of steam pumping out of the source made for picturesque views of the crisp valley as the sun rose above the mountains in the early morning (see above).
