2015 Year End Review

While the past year may have been more challenging than I would have liked to endure, it was nonetheless rewarding. Early on, this website went down for the count. When the dust finally settled, over a year’s worth of data was lost. This was actually a huge win considering for a time it seemed all was lost.

I managed to fit in a few soaks during many travels between Boise and Portland before shattering my left hand in a hiking accident. Yes folks, when it rains it almost always pours. I’m OK with that. The longer and harder it rains, the more incredibly awesome it is when the sun finally comes out.

Looking Ahead

The new year brings with it the opportunity for sparkling white adventures. I teamed up with Matador and VisitIdaho.org again, but this time to write a guide that pairs a select few of Idaho’s commercial hot springs with stellar backcountry cross-country skiing and yurting. This should be live Jan/Feb.

Happy New Year Trails!

  1. Happy New Year, dear friend. I loved your article at the other site and “liked” it on facebook. Am going to try to connect with you there personally as well.

May 2016 be an incredible year for you (and may it get me into a hot spring!).

  2. Dwight, Skinny is in limbo while the BLM makes a decision. So, presently speaking, it is accessible from sunrise to sunset. Nighttime closure remains in effect.

  3. To update on Skinny:
the decision has already been made by the BLM and they have filed the federal paperwork for closure. At this time that is in processing and most likely when spring hits they will start to take action on the closure and enforcement. Currently however, the maintenance of the pools has declined as the regulars have stopped doing as much upkeep and the jackholes have been smashing the plumbing. So sadly, Skinny is in decline and soon to be closed.
There is still chance for a great soak there however if you head up early in the day and/or on the weekdays. Make certain to take traction for the hillside climb, stay on the trail, pack out your trash and any you find (no glass!) and truly soak up the area before it becomes inaccessible.
